profile (As of October, 2004)

I was born in 1980 in New Zealand.
I lived in Australia for eight years and then returned to NZ to finish school and start university. I went to Massey University in Wellington and studied Industrial Design. I graduated with honours and have just begun working as a Product Designer for an inflatable product manufacturer not far from Wellington.

concept

I wanted to design a stylish pair of sunglasses that were desirable and practical for young, active people. The idea was to create sunglasses that could be transformed into a compact, flat, small unit that would be similar to a business card. The real innovation behind the idea is the way that the arms fold up and cover the lenses, protecting them, taking away the need for a case or bag.

materials

The frame is constucted from a titanium alloy, thus making the unit strong and light. Most parts of the frame would be cast but in some areas, (ie hinges, moving parts) details will be machined for greater accuracy.
